Coding

code

It’s been a while since I’ve updated the world — I’ve had my head down at my new job (as a video producer at StudioNow) and kept things quiet for a while. It’s been nice to be busy and feel important again, especially after an aimless year in school that had me questioning my every decision. Now that I’ve started to create a space for myself in the world, I’ve decided to start learning something new again.

Coding.

I know, it sounds cliche. The entire world is learning to code right now. Everyone keeps saying there are infinite job opportunities in software development. However, that’s not why I’m doing it (though it’s a great motivator).

I want to learn to code so that I can build things. I want to learn so I can help others get their message out, and help companies better the world. I’m fascinated by the tech industry right now and I feel I should be a part of it. I want to help the small business owner create their first marketplace online, or help a small musician create a space to share music and ideas with his/her fan base. I’m looking to create things…things to help the world, little by little.

I think I like the idea of giving updates every so often on my progress, including what I’ve learned and what my plan is. So let this be day one:

I’ve started the Front End Web Development track on Treehouse and hope to spend at least 10 hours per week working on it. I know that’s not much right now, but I’m setting small goals that are more than achievable, so I can stay motivated (hacking my own brain, if you will).

Let me know if you’re learning something new and have any tips for me! Are you learning to code? If so, why? Are you trying to learn something else right now that is completely overwhelming and exciting all at once? Tell me about it in the comments!
